With the reopening of borders worldwide, more Nepali students are enrolling in international universities. A study by Study Group, a global education provider, found a 36% rise in Nepali student enrolment since 2020.

Australia is the top choice for Nepali students, followed by the USA, UK, and Europe. Many students prefer studying abroad for better education, job opportunities, and the chance to settle in developed countries. Over the past year, 55% of Nepali students applied to universities in North America, 45% to the UK, and 10% to Australia. Most of these students come from Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected many students in 2020, but mass vaccination and relaxed visa rules have encouraged more students to apply. Srini Bandara, Regional Director of South Asia at Study Group, said they are happy to see more Nepali students choosing universities abroad for quality education and work opportunities.

Popular study fields among Nepali students include nursing, public health, business, engineering, IT, data science, accounting, and urban planning.
